Vail is by one of the leading sires in Sim from quite a few years ago, the great Dressed in Black. Dressed in Black was an outstanding sporthorse, competing to the CCI**** level in dressage and to high levels in dressage and show jumping as well. He also produced many exceptional performers on the track and in the show ring, for a while it seemed like every successful foal was by Dressed in Black! Vail's dam, Unbridled Ballad, also had a good career as a sporthorse before being retired to brood, where she proved herself many times over with winning progeny on the track, on the cross country course and in the show jumping arena.
Vail has always been an excellent competitor for us, he was specifically bred for the sporthorse events and never raced. When he was younger, we campaigned him in primarily eventing shows and then for a few years he dropped off the radar and was unshown. Recently we pulled him out of the Sim black hole and restarted his career in eventing, where he has done very well, currently showing at the intermediate level and showing great potential to move up to the advanced level next year. He is for sure an upper level horse and would have already been there if it weren't for his period of inactivity. He only has a few foals on the ground, but we plan on making him our primary eventing sire once he is retired from the show ring.
